Where: Renewals and Billing, then Manage Subscriptions
Keeps working until: the end date on the confirmation screen. After that GoDaddy deletes the product and its data.
Refunds: most renewals are no longer refundable under GoDaddy’s new policy. Details below.
Turn off GoDaddy auto-renew for a domain, hosting or email
- Sign in and go to Renewals and Billing, then select Manage Subscriptions.
- Choose the product and select Cancel Plan. On some accounts the button says Turn off Auto-Renew or Cancel Renewal.
- Pick a reason and select Continue to Cancel. GoDaddy may ask a question or two.
- Check the end date on the confirmation screen and select Confirm Cancel.
You can keep using the product until that end date and you won’t be charged again. After it, GoDaddy deletes the product and everything in it, so download your website files and email first. If you change your mind, you can still renew by hand.
If it won’t let you cancel a domain
- Domains with Domain Protection ask you to verify it’s you, with a code by text, authenticator app or email.
- The domain has to be active. If it shows pending updates, wait for them to finish and try again.
- Products sold together in one subscription are cancelled together. You can’t cancel just one part.
Letting a domain lapse on purpose? GoDaddy parks it 5 days after it expires, which stops your website and email. After 18 days it leaves your account and can only be recovered for a redemption fee, and after 72 days it is gone.
Bought it in the GoDaddy app through Apple or Google?
Then the App Store or Google Play handles the billing, cancelling and refunds, so turn it off in the store.
Will GoDaddy refund an auto-renewal?
GoDaddy changed its refund policy on October 15, 2026, for customers who got its notice email on September 15, 2026. Which rules you get depends on that email and on when you were charged.
New policy (GoDaddy refund policy): renewals, automatic or manual, are not refunded. The exceptions are:
- Microsoft 365: annual within 7 days, monthly within 48 hours of a purchase or renewal.
- Business Email and GoDaddy’s other email products: annual within 30 days, monthly within 48 hours of a purchase or renewal.
- Commerce subscriptions: annual within 30 days, monthly within 48 hours.
Older policy (still shown for everyone else): annual plans within 30 days and monthly plans within 48 hours of a renewal. A one-year domain auto-renewal can be refunded within 45 days, but multi-year domain renewals only within 5 days. Hosting is refundable within 30 days only if the service hasn’t been used.
To ask for a refund, first delete the product you want refunded, then contact GoDaddy by phone on 1-480-366-3550, by text on 1-480-908-8665, or by chat. All three are open 24/7. GoDaddy says it doesn’t process refund requests sent by email (how to request a refund).
Does GoDaddy warn you before it renews?
For most domains, GoDaddy sends several expiration emails in the 30 days before the renewal date, and shows account alerts 30 to 90 days before a product expires. With auto-renew on, it tries to renew a domain on the expiry day (domain expiration timeline).
